RIVERSIDE, Calif., January 18, 2016 – Bourns, Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of electronic components, today announced that its Bourns Pro Audio group will debut the Sean Silas Signature Series Guitar Potentiometer at the upcoming NAMM Show to be held January 21-24, 2016 in Anaheim, California. Bourns Pro Audio developed this custom signature series line in conjunction with rock/metal guitarist Sean Silas to suit his original playing style and that of other guitarists in this genre. The two initial guitar potentiometers in Bourns’ Sean Silas Signature Series are precision guitar volume controls. These breakthrough potentiometers feature a custom audio taper for highly accurate volume setting, and use specialized lubricants for a smooth, viscous rotational torque. The knurled shaft option is suited for press-fit knobs, and the plain shaft is designed for knobs with set screws.

Bourns developed this specialty line of potentiometers in response to customer requests for additional taper and resistance value options that help improve the sound quality, reliability and longevity in electric and bass guitars. The four new guitar potentiometer options from Bourns are being released in tandem with the upcoming NAMM Show, January 23-26, 2014 in Anaheim, California.

Bourns has developed a specialty line of potentiometers for electric and bass guitars to upgrade these instruments for improved sound quality, reliability and longevity. The following five new model options will be showcased in Bourns’ booth #5696 at the upcoming NAMM Show, January 19-22, 2012 in Anaheim, California.

The long bushing potentiometers are excellent for use in solid body guitars and work in all types of electric or bass guitars, with or without a push-pull switch.

Bourns Introduces Two New Industrial-Grade Panel Control Models

RIVERSIDE, Calif., August 23, 2011 — Bourns, Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of electronic components, today announced two new industrial-grade panel control models that include a push-pull switch and rotary switch.  Designated the Bourns® Model 54, the new ½-inch panel control is an extension of Bourns® Model 51/53 Series with an added double-pole, double-throw (DPDT) push-pull switch module. The Bourns® Model 56 is a new ½” panel control and is also an extension of the Bourns® Model 51/53 Series with an added single-pole, double-throw (SPDT) rotary switch module.  Both new products are high-performance alternatives to readily available consumer-grade potentiometers with push-pull and rotary switches.  Developed to match the requirements of a broad range of industrial, medical and aerospace/avionics applications, Bourns’ new panel control models are particularly well-suited for use in test and measurement and communications equipment.  Bourns® Model 54 is also an optimal solution for medical diagnostic and professional audio equipment, while the Bourns® Model 56 is designed for use in avionics controls and medical laboratory equipment.

The new models measure 12.5 mm and feature metal bushings and shafts, splash seals and a wide range of linear and audio resistance tapers.  Rotational life for both models is 50k cycles with contact resistance at 100 mΩ for Model 54 and 30 mΩ for Model 56.  Both models are RoHS compliant.*

Bourns to Host Renowned Guitar Technicians Dickson and Kelly in Summer NAMM Booth

Riverside, Calif., Jul 12, 2011 – Bourns, Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of electronic components, today announced the company will have an exhibit at the Summer NAMM Show and will host renowned guitar technicians Lee Dickson and Will Kelly in the Bourns booth. Dickson and Kelly have worked with some of the world’s most influential guitarists and will be demonstrating the value of using Bourns® potentiometers (pots), encoders and other components in the design of guitars and other pro audio products. Bourns’ complete line of guitar potentiometers along with the company’s portfolio of supporting pro audio products will be on display in Booth #306 at Summer NAMM July 21-23, 2011, which takes place at the Nashville Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

Lee Dickson served as Eric Clapton’s personal guitar technician for more than 30 years and presides over a vintage collection of some of the world’s most expensive and famous guitars. Will Kelly is a highly respected guitar builder and a contributing writer for Vintage Guitar Magazine’s popular monthly tech column, Shop of Hard Knocks. He recently featured the Bourns® Model 82 vintage guitar potentiometer in his May 2011 column entitled, “A Worthy Upgrade: Improved Tone with Just a Little Time, Money,” where he advocates upgrades to quality potentiometers to improve tone.

Bourns designed its new products for use in professional audio, video, broadcast and lighting mixing consoles, as well as support peripheral equipment applications such as signal processors, amplifiers, and speaker systems. The new components will be demonstrated along with Bourns’ complete line of guitar potentiometers, pro audio products, design kits and video application notes in Bourns Booth #2992 in Hall D at the NAMM Show, January 13 – 16, 2011 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California.

“The trend in mixing consoles and peripheral support products is to incorporate components with multiple functions and space savings,” said Chuck Manzano, product manager at Bourns, Inc. “Listening to the requirements of our customers, Bourns new pro audio components feature a compact size and offer multiple functions in a single control while providing a robust and reliable design.”

Details of Bourns’ new pro audio components are as follows:

  • Model PEL12 Series Encoder with Illuminated Shaft: A 12 mm encoder that contains a clear shaft and is illuminated with internal LEDs.  Multiple LED color options, with single, dual and triple LED options are available. A momentary push switch is standard with dual and triple LED versions.
  • Model PEC11L: An 11 mm low-profile incremental encoder offering a momentary push switch option. This contacting encoder provides 100,000 cycles of rotational life in a small and robust package with a wide operating temperature range, which is suitable for use indoors and outdoors.
  • Model PEC09: A 9 mm encoder featuring a momentary push switch option. This contacting encoder brings additional space savings to portable mixing consoles and associated peripheral equipment.
  • Model PRS11S: A surface mount potentiometer in an 11mm square package that simplifies production board assembly by eliminating the need for wave or hand soldering after surface mount products have been mounted on a PC board. This potentiometer is designed for compact mixing boards where all components are mounted on a single PC board.

As a unit pricing reference, Bourns Model PEL12 is priced at $1.25 to $2.67, Bourns Model PEC11L is priced at $0.81 to $0.85, Bourns Model PEC09 is priced at $0.93 to $1.52 and Bourns Model PRS11S is priced at $1.41 to $1.53 all in 5,000 piece quantities. The new design kits will be showcased along with Bourns’ complete line of guitar potentiometers and other pro audio products in Bourns Booth #2992 in Hall D at the NAMM Show, January 13 – 16, 2011 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California.

The Bourns® Model PRS11S surface mount potentiometer simplifies production board assembly by eliminating the need for wave or hand soldering after surface mount products have been mounted on a PC board. This new potentiometer is an optimal choice for compact mixing boards where all components are mounted on a single PC board. The Bourns® Model PEC11L low-profile contacting encoder with a momentary push switch option provides 100,000 cycles of rotational life in a small, robust package that offers a wide operating temperature range, and is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. The Bourns® Model PEC09 contacting encoder also features a momentary push switch option and delivers additional space savings for portable mixing consoles and peripheral equipment.

As a pricing reference, the Model PRS11S is priced at $1.41-1.53 in 5,000 piece quantities. The Model PEC11L is priced at $0.81-0.85 in 5,000 piece quantities and the Model PEC09 is priced at $0.93-1.52 in 5,000 piece quantities.
